Variable Dimming and Switching - In June 2007 Elexon agreed to changes which allow Meter Administrators to include dynamic switching information in the half hourly energy calculation. The changes will be implemented in February 2008 by progressive Meter Administrators. Until now, Lighting Authorities could not include energy cost savings in their business cases unless they installed meters on the street lighting. Metering of street lighting is an administrative nightmare and authorities avoid it wherever possible. Now the full benefits of the reduced energy cost can be realised through a Meter Administrator.

Fixed Dimming - In April 2007 it was identified that Power Data Associates’ Meter Administrator system can support dimming to a fixed level on a fixed time regime, all that is needed are appropriate codes to be approved. Agreeing suitable codes enables Lighting Authorities to see the energy bill reductions from installing ‘part night’ dimming equipment. A number of manufacturers are preparing test data for UMSUG approval.
